Several reports around a new LPG booking rule in 2026 went viral, which suggested a longer waiting period for Gas cylinder refills have sparked confusion among consumers across India.
As per the claims, households with dual-cylinder connections would need to wait 35 days, while Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) beneficiaries may face a 45-day gap before booking the next LPG cylinder.

These reports, widely circulated on social media and some platforms, suggested that oil marketing companies like Indian Oil had revised the LPG cylinder booking rules, increasing the waiting period and tightening refill timelines.
According to the circulating information, the proposed changes included:
35-day waiting period for double-cylinder (14.2 kg) users
25-day gap for single-cylinder users
45-day interval for PMUY beneficiaries
The system was also said to automatically block early bookings, making the LPG refill booking gap strictly enforced across India.
Government Issues Official Clarification
However, the government has now stepped in to address the confusion and has denied any such changes in LPG booking rules.
In an official clarification from the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, authorities stated that no revision has been made to LPG refill timelines, and the existing rules continue to apply.
As per the government, the refill booking timeline remains 25 days in urban areas And 45 days in rural areas, irrespective of connection type
The government also urged citizens not to believe or circulate misinformation related to LPG booking rules and advised against panic booking of cylinders.
Importantly, it was reiterated that adequate LPG stock is available in the country, and there is no shortage or supply concern at present.
Source of Confusion Around LPG Booking Rules?
The confusion appears to have stemmed from unverified reports linking global supply concerns and geopolitical tensions to possible restrictions on LPG distribution. While such concerns have impacted energy markets globally, no official change in gas cylinder booking policy has been implemented in India.
Consumers are advised to follow only official LPG booking guidelines and rely on authorised platforms such as MyLPG, IndianOil, Bharat Gas, and HP Gas portals for updates. There is no change in LPG booking rules, and users can continue to book refills as per existing timelines without worry.
